Meaningful Music Monday- Bellarive- Lazarus

Bellarive was one of those bands who came onto the scene a few years ago and was recommended by RELEVANT magazine as one of the worship bands to watch out for in the coming years. Their previous album was one I enjoyed and would play on repeat. So when they were on tour with Rend Collective this past fall, it was great to hear some of their old stuff along with some of their new stuff, including Lazarus.

I have been enjoying the album overall, but Lazarus sticks in my head due to the pounding drums and the haunting melody which is hummed and repeated throughout the song. The lyrical content comes from the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, “Lazarus, come out!” This is a great reminder of the hope and excitement for the resurrection, but also the reminder that we do not need to live in the dark today. Jesus brings us to the light, even in the darkness.

Bellarive- Lazarus

Out of breath, a permanent condition
Taken by the night.
This bone and flesh could never find a reason
To breathe in again.
He said

Chorus:
Come out!
Come out from your hiding!
And just as you are,
Come out from the dark!

Even when the dead man’s sleeping,
Resurrection calls to restore.
Even here and now you are what he’s calling for.

So take a breath and break the night,
Stranger to the light.
Wind of God, dig up the graves
Breathe into this slayed.

Here for sure a permanent solution,
Swallowed up the night.
A voice so pure giving bones a reason
To breathe in again!
Well, he said

Chorus:
Come out!
Come out from your hiding!
And just as you are,
Come out from the dark!

Even when the dead man’s sleeping!
Resurrection calls to restore
Even here and now you are what he’s calling for.
So sleep no more!

So take a breath and break the night,
Stranger to the light.
The wind of God, dig up the graves
Came breathing into this life!
Came breathing into this life!
Breathe into this life!

Take some time to listen to the song and read through the lyrics. It is a great song reminding us of the haunting of death, but the power of the resurrection!

Here is the video…super cool…
